Strange Matter LLC (“Strange Matter,” “we”) makes apps and runs this website. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
The short version: we collect only what our apps need to work. We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use it for advertising or to track you.
This website
strangematter.us doesn’t use cookies, analytics, or advertising, and it doesn’t load anything from third-party services. Like most web hosts, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time). We use them only to keep the site secure and running.
Joe
Game Center
Joe uses Apple’s Game Center to sign you in and find other players. When you play, Joe sends your Game Center player ID and display name to our game server so it can seat you in a game and show your name to the other players. We don’t receive your Apple Account email address, your real name, or your contacts.
If you let Joe see your Game Center friends, it uses that list only to help you invite friends to a game. When you invite someone, their Game Center player ID is stored with that game on our server. We never copy your friends list to our servers.
The games you play
Our game server stores the games you play (your hands, plays, discards, and scores), linked to your Game Center player ID. The server keeps the official record of each multiplayer game for everyone in it, which is how all players see the same game and how a game recovers after a dropped connection.
The game server also keeps standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and request times, for security and troubleshooting.
Voice chat
Joe offers optional voice chat during multiplayer games. If you turn it on and allow microphone access, your voice is sent live to the other players in your game through our own voice chat server. We don’t record or store voice chat.
You can turn voice chat off or mute your microphone at any time in Joe’s settings. Joe never uses your camera.
On your device
Joe stores your settings on your device. It also keeps a diagnostic log on your device to help troubleshoot problems, and that log stays on your device.
What Joe doesn’t do
Joe has no ads and no third-party analytics, and it doesn’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Who we share information with
We don’t sell your information or share it for advertising. We share it only with:
- Hosting providers: the companies whose servers run our website, game server, and voice chat server. They may use the information only to provide their services to us.
- Other players: people in a game with you see your Game Center display name and the moves you make.
- Authorities: when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your player record and game history so we can run and recover games. If you ask us to delete your data, we’ll delete your player record and game history from our servers within 30 days.
Your choices
- See or delete your data: email us at support@strangematter.us. Include your Game Center display name so we can find your record.
- Voice chat: turn it off in Joe’s settings, or turn off microphone access for Joe in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security, then Microphone.
- Game Center: sign out in the iOS Settings app under Game Center.
Children
Our apps aren’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we’ve already collected, we’ll announce it on this page before it takes effect.
